Today the developer of the popular GTD application for the Mac, iGTD, annouced he is ceasing development as his new role at Cultured Code will take up all his time. As you may remember, Cultured Code is the developer of a competing application, and the one I use, Things.

Here is the email we received…

Hello everyone,

Long time no hear! No entries on my blog, no news… it’s been almost two years of silence and I’m very glad to talk to you again.

Today’s a very, very important day for me. After many months spent in the scary world of PC’s, I’m happy to announce that I have just joined the community of professional Mac developers.

I’ll be working with some fantastic people – the Cultured Code team. These guys love Macs just like I do. They are smart, amazingly funny, and keen on doing their work right – it’s enough to have a look at their main product to see what I mean: Things. It’s simply impressing. It’s the right balance between UI elegance and lots of power under the hood. It’s a well-thought out software and – what can I say – I feel proud of having the chance to make it even better!

So, what does this mean for iGTD?

Well, I’m pretty sure some of you are still using iGTD while others have switched to other task management software. I’ve got good news for all of you…

I encourage those of you still using my software to switch to Things. You don’t have to worry, it’s quite simple. Just use the brand new iGTD Importer application which will migrate your iGTD tasks to Things. Plus, today’s Things 1.2 update brings you the two features you probably loved in iGTD: lots of handy keyboard shortcuts and – yes! – the F-key trick! We also released Quicksilver, LaunchBar and Google QuickSearchBox plug-ins for all the keyboard freaks.

You can read more about the migration to Things in the newest CC blog post:
http://culturedcode.com/things/blog/

Using an other task manager already? You may be interested in Things 1.2, too. All of you who donated to iGTD will receive a full licence (or multiple licences if you donated more than the amount of a Things single-user license) for Things Mac version. I owe you that! You’ll get the code coupons soon via e-mail. Give the new Things a try – I’m guessing you won’t regret it!

I hope you’ll appreciate our efforts to combine the Things and iGTD worlds – we did our best to make you feel comfortable. I’m also excited about the new possibilities missing in iGTD but already available for Things: the iPhone application, the collaboration features coming soon, the full AppleScript support… Use it and enjoy it!

Last but not least, I want to thank you for your support for iGTD. It’s you who made this success story possible, and it’s you who motivated me with your wonderful e-mails and donations. Thank you VERY much!

Yours,
Bartek Bargiel

Our best wishes go out to Bartek in his new endeavor and hope Things is all the better for their investment is such a innovative developer.

Apple software consumes 4 of the top 10 spots on Amazon’s top 10 bestseller software list. With the upcoming release of the latest OS update, Snow Leopard 10.6, taking number 1 and 2 on the list with Microsoft Office for Mac at number 5 and iLife ‘09 coming in a number 9.

Is this just hype around the release of a new OS or is Microsoft really slipping as much as the Mac zealots hope. The release of Windows 7 will give us a better insight upon its release in October, but for now Apple is the star of the show.

All the while we are hearing more clients asking and consider Mac’s for the their businesses. We are constantly doing research on moving proprietary businesses application to the Mac or even web platforms to allow them to use Mac’s.

The popularity of the iPhone, the lowered resistance to the Mac in business and the ubiquity of the web is making the switch easier than ever.
